CCTV Control Room Compliance
CCTV Control Rooms that directly or inadvertently monitor public spaces
should be managed and operated in accordance with BS 7958. This
British Standard states the requirements for a management system that
covers everything from the physical layout of the control room,
control room operation, personnel training and HR matters, evidence gathering, data
protection, information security and business continuity.
Systems covering public areas can be found in town
centres, shopping precincts, public buildings (such as museums, sports
centres and civic
centres), airports, train and bus stations, public transport vehicles
(buses and taxis), traffic management systems, camping grounds,
car parks and a host of other areas. These systems need to be managed
and operated correctly. Development and operation of a management system based on BS
7958:2005 gives you confidence of compliance with all applicable regulations
and anticipation of and preparation for all foreseeable eventualities.
EQM personnel have been working with control rooms
and control room standards of all shapes and sizes since 1991. These
cover manned guarding control rooms to BS 7499, Alarm Receiving Centres
to BS 5979, TSA Control Rooms to TSA Codes of Practice and CCTV control
rooms to BS 7958.
We are adept at assessing the compliance of your
control room and, where there are deficiencies, developing systems to
meet the requirements of the relevant standard. Because we develop a
management system to meet those requirements, the compliance is locked
in to your staff's day-to-day activities. A light guiding hand is all
that is needed to maintain compliance, to achieve continual
improvement and to implement changes brought about by changing regulations and
legal requirements.
The resultant management system is guaranteed to pass
assessment by a third party certification body against the relevant
standard, leading to certification. This would be a public
acknowledgement of your professionalism in the area of CCTV monitoring
and management and operation of your CCTV control room.
Even without formal certification by a third party certification body,
your organization should reap real benefits from compliance. These
will include:
-
increased staff retention and the associated
decrease in training costs
-
increased customer retention
-
decreased customer dissatisfaction i.e.
complaints
-
increased profitability by reducing errors
-
demonstrable compliance reducing potential claims
under data protection regulations
-
information security and business continuity are
integral within the system
